About the Lancaster County Treasurer's Office

The Lancaster County Treasurer's Office collects all current property taxes and acts as a banker for the County.

By law real estate and personal property tax bills have to be mailed 30 days prior to the due date. Taxes are due by January 15th without penalty unless the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday. If it falls on a weekend or holiday you will have until 5:00 pm the next business day to pay without penalty. After March 16th unless weekend or holiday they are turned over to the Tax Collector’s office @ 803-283-8885.

Motor Vehicle bills are mailed 30 days prior to bills being due and are due on the last day of the month. The decal will come from the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Office if you pay by mail, phone, or online within 7-10 business days. If you don’t receive the decal within 7-10 business days, please call DMV @ 1-803-896-5000.

An important deadline is approaching for Lancaster County taxpayers – the closing of the County’s 2023 tax books, which takes place on March 18th @ 5:00 pm. This is an important step in the annual fiscal budgeting process for Lancaster County Government, as it allows those who serve on County Council, the School Board and the Town and City council to determine how much tax revenue they will have to work with as they work to finish their 2024-2025 budgets.

The county Treasurer’s Office allows you several options to pay your county taxes: cash, check, credit/debit card. You can pay online @ www.mylancastersctax.org  or by phone      1-888-525-3661 by e-check or credit/debit card. Please be aware that there is a 2.6 % convenience fee plus $0.30 processing fee to process tax payments made with a credit/debit card.  All processing fees are collected by the service provider and do not go to the county.  Our County Administration Building office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Taxes on homes and business properties (this deadline does not apply to cars, boats, and motors) which are still due after this date must be paid to the Tax Collectors Office. As additional penalties and costs will be charged to anyone who still owes taxes, please do all you can to get your taxes paid before this deadline.

After this deadline, all non-vehicle taxes will be transferred to the Tax Collectors office. You may contact this office by calling 803-283-8885 for assistance. Please note the Tax Collectors office does not accept partial payment the same as our office. They also do not accept personal checks and debit/credit cards. They only accept cash, cashier’s check, or money order.

Anytime you have questions or concerns, please come by our office at the County Administration Building downtown Lancaster or call us at (803) 285-7939
