Treasurer warns of scam phone calls
(Thursday, 5/19/2022) The Lancaster County Treasurer’s Office has received multiple complaints recently about potential scammers pretending to be Treasurer’s clerks.
The scammers are reportedly calling local residents in an attempt to collect bank information and other personal details. Lancaster County Treasurer Carrie Helms says this is certainly not the case.
“We will NEVER contact you over the phone for collections,” Helms said. “All tax bills are sent through the mail. This is a crime, and I would hate for any citizen of Lancaster County to fall victim to it.”
Tax bills will only be paid one of three ways: online at www.mylancastersctax.org/taxes.html, by phone at 1-888-525-3661, or by mail. For more information, visit the Lancaster County Treasurer’s page at mylancastersc.org.
If you feel you have been the victim of a crime, contact the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388.
The Lancaster County Delinquent Tax office uses a company called American Financial Credit Solutions to collect DELINQUENT TAXES, but they will not ask for personal information. If you receive a phone call from this agency and have questions, contact the Delinquent Tax office at 803-283-8885.
